HAVE FUN AT 4TH ANNUAL RESEARCH PROGRAM BENEFIT

When you register for ATS 2012, you can also register for the ATS Foundation Research Benefit.

In its short history, the ATS Foundation’s benefit has become an outstanding destination for recognizing international achievement in advancing the practice of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.

The benefit follows the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, May 19, and sets the tone for the entire International Conference.

For 2012, we’ve added an extra element of fun to this global gathering of leaders in medicine and science. Instead of a formal sit-down dinner, attendees will mingle and network with colleagues while sampling a wide array of San Francisco’s delicious cuisines. And you can dance to music provided by a local DJ.

In addition to benefiting the ATS Foundation Research Program, the event will recognize Talmadge E. King Jr., MD, the 2012 recipient of the Foundation’s Breathing for Life Award. Dr. King is a past president of the American Thoracic Society, chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and a leading authority on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

For more information about the benefit, please click here. To register for the benefit, please click here

WORLD SPIROMETRY DAY WEB SITE LAUNCHED

The Forum for International Respiratory Societies, or FIRS, will for the second year mark World Spirometry Day. In 2012, however, calling it World Spirometry Day is a misnomer: although it will launch on June 27, the “day’ will continue right through July 27, when the 2012 Olympics kick off.

ATS members are encouraged to capitalize on the Olympics and hold events in the month before the games. Resources for organizing and promoting a spirometry event, as well as training healthcare professionals to perform spirometry, can be found on the World Spirometry Day Web site. You can also register your event through the Web site, so those interested in having the test can locate an institution or organization offering one.
