We do not collect Social Security numbers. Credit card information submitted through the ATS website is used only for payment processing and is not retained on our site.

The ATS may request information from users via surveys. Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary, and the user has a choice whether or not to disclose contact information and other demographic information.

Tracking Activity On The ATS Website

The ATS tracks how our website is used by both anonymous visitors and visitors who interact with the site. One way we track is by using "cookies." A cookie is a small file or string of text on the site user's computer that is used to aid Web navigation. Two types of cookies are commonly used. A session cookie is created by a website when that site is accessed; that type of cookie is automatically deleted by closing the Web browser. A persistent cookie is a cookie that is stored on the hard drive of the user’s computer for a period of time chosen by the website that set the cookie, usually for a number of years, unless the user deletes it manually. The ATS may use either type of cookies for our web applications.

Sharing Your Information

We may share personal information with our business partners and other organizations, in order to provide them an opportunity to offer products or services that may be of interest to you.  For example, we may give exhibitors the names and mailing addresses of preregistrants to our International Conference, and we may sell the names and mailing addresses of subscribers to our journals (the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (AJRCCM), theAmerican Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology (AJRCMB)and the Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society (PATS)). In addition, we may determine, in good faith, that if an organization’s mission is aligned with the ATS’ mission, members could benefit from learning about that organization’s products or services. In such case, we share member mailing addresses.  We require these parties to use any Personally Identifiable Information only to market and provide their products or services and to use such information only for a one-time communication.

Except as disclosed in this Privacy Statement, the ATS does not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise retransmit any Personally Identifiable Information we collect online unless we have your permission. Any Personally Identifiable Information you provide to us will be used for your purchases and retained in hard copy form of the original invoice as well as within our database system, which generates our member and subscriber invoices.

From time to time, the ATS may be required to disclose your personal information in response to court order, subpoena or government investigation. We may release Personally Identifiable Information when we are required to do so.

The ATS has security measures in place to protect the information within our control.

SSL technology  - The ATS realizes the importance of security, so we've taken a number of steps to enhance the protection of information sent to or from the ATS. First, we require that a "secure session" be established, using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. This is done any time you supply or access information in one of our secure online areas. The SSL technology encodes information as it is being sent over the Internet between your computer and the ATS systems, helping to ensure that the transmitted information remains confidential.

User ID and password –Some areas of the website require the use of a User ID and Password as an additional security measure that helps protect your information. This allows ATS to verify who you are, thereby allowing you access to your account information and helping to prevent unauthorized access.

No guarantee -- Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Accordingly, and despite our best efforts, ATS cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, or to or from our online products or services.

The ATS website contains links to other websites operated and maintained by independent, unrelated, third parties, and third party websites might link to our website.
