NIH Receives Additional $150 Million in Funding for FY2008
There is good news for biomedical research this week. In June, the Congress passed an Iraq war supplemental appropriations bill that the President enacted into law which includes $150 million in additional funding for the National Institutes of Health for Fiscal Year 2008. This week, the NIH issued a detailing of how the funding will be allocated. The funding supplement works out to a .5% increase over the FY08 level for each NIH institute. The following are the specific funding levels per institute:- $25.559 million for the National Cancer Institute, bringing NCI's current FY08 funding level to $4.831 billion.
- $15.542 million for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, bringing NHLBI's current FY08 funding level up to $2.938 billion.
- $22.689 million for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, bringing the NIAID's current FY08 funding level to $4.583 billion.
- $3.416 million for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, bringing the NIEHS' current FY08 funding level to $645.669 million.
- $731,000 for the National Institute of Nursing Research, bringing NINR's current FY08 funding level to $138.207 million.
- $354,000 for the Fogarty International Center, bringing FIC's current FY08 funding level to $66.912 million.
