ATS-IDSA Guidelines for Management of HAP, VAP, HCAP for handheld computers

This handheld computer-based program is an adjunct to the ATS-IDSA Guidelines for the Management of Hospital Acquired Pneumonia, Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, and Healthcare Associated Pneumonia. Both Palm OS and Windows Mobile are available for downloading free to ATS members. The program contains essential practical information including epidemiology and pathogenesis, etiology and modifiable risk factors and treatment including drug doses. It is a handy reference for those familiar with the published guidelines.

Installation Instructions

If you have a Palm-based device:

NOTE: Approximately 300 kilobytes of free space on your handheld device is required for installation.

From your computer…

  1. Click here to download the file for HAP Guidelines for Palm, ATS_HAP-Installer.prc. Save this file in a location on your hard drive.
  2. Once this file is downloaded, double-click the file.  This will run the Palm Quick Install tool to transfer it on your device.
  3. Add the ATS_HAP-Installer.prc file to the transfer list.
  4. HotSync your device to transfer it.

From your handheld device…

  1. Once the file is transferred, the program will self-extract and complete its installation. Tap OK.
  2. To start the HAP Guidelines for Palm, tap the HAP program icon (the one with the lungs).

If you have a Pocket PC-based device:

NOTE: Approximately 1.2 megabytes of free space on your handheld device is required for installation.

From your computer…

  1. Click here to download the file for HAP Guidelines for Pocket PC, ATS_HAP_SETUP.exe.  Save this file in a location on your hard drive.
  2. Once this file is downloaded, double-click the file to extract its contents. You will be prompted to specify a folder where it should unzip the contents. (It defaults to the folder where you downloaded the file. You do not have to modify this.)
  3. Click Unzip.  A folder named ATS_HAP will be created.
  4. Copy the ATS_HAP folder to your device.

From your handheld device…

  1. Run the SatFormsRuntimeRDK.Arm application to install support for the application. (You may get a harmless message indicating that a resource dll MSDAEREN.DLL failed to load.)
  2. Copy HAP (the one with the lungs) as a shortcut to Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder.
