Mission Statement

I. Name

The name of this Scientific Assembly of the American Thoracic Society shall be "The Assembly on Critical Care".

II. Objectives

  • To provide forums for discussion and evaluation of research concerned with critical care.
  • To collect, interpret, and disseminate information concerning research, patient care and education in the critical care setting.
  • To foster communication among the diverse group of health care professionals involved in the care of critically ill patients.
  • To support critical care professionals and foster a culture of diversity, gender equity, self-care, and long-term career satisfaction.

III. Scope

The Scope of the Critical Care Assembly shall include:

  • Support of research endeavors related to topics relevant to critical care.
  • Support of patient care in intensive care settings as provided by physicians, nurses, therapists, ancillary support services and administrative professionals.
  • Support of ICU survivors and their families as they transition to other healthcare setting in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Support of educational programs for all individuals involved in the care of critically ill patients.
  • Support the efforts to translate research into clinical practice and healthcare delivery in the critical care setting
