ATS Global Scholars Program

The ATS Global Scholars Program was created to help address the shortage of advanced training programs in respiratory, critical care, and sleep medicine in middle- and low- income countries where the burdens of these diseases and conditions are immense.  Junior professionals can learn via live webinar about a range of topics in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. The Global Scholars Program is the presidential initiative of Atul Malhotra, MD (2015-2016).

There are 25 lectures in the series each of which includes a pre- and post-test. Students who successfully complete the program will receive certificates designating them as ATS Global Scholars which can be used to help establish credentials with government agencies, professional colleagues and patients. In addition, top students will receive a travel scholarship to attend the ATS International Conference.

The program is now offered at 16 institutions in 12 countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, China, India, Pakistan, and Colombia.

Enrollment in the Global Scholars Program occurs on a quarterly basis. The next period of enrollment begins June 2017.
