American Thoracic Society Applauds FDA and DOJ for Taking Steps to Curb Illegal Tobacco Sales and Youth Vaping

Oct. 20, 2022 – This week, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it had filed complaints against e-cigarette manufacturers on behalf of the FDA.

The American Thoracic Society applauds the FDA and the Department of Justice for seeking court action against makers of illegal tobacco products. Each of the companies named in the legal action were directly warned by the FDA, yet they continued to make illegal tobacco products that often ended up in the hands of kids.

While the ATS commends the DOJ’s and FDA’s for taking a decisive step, we note that both agencies have not yet taken direct legal action against the most popular brands that are driving youth tobacco use.

We hope this is the first of many legal actions taken against makers of illegal tobacco products.
