Assemblies Brochure 2018

ASSEMBLIES 15 JOURNAL CLUB JOURNAL CLUBS Journal Clubs explore high impact literature and approaches used to address clinical, translational, and basic research problems. The Journal Clubs are conducted on a web based platform allowing real-time discussion both online and on the phone. This interactive activity is dedicated to fellows and trainees, who have the opportunity to take an active role in participating and leading a session. Members can also receive academic credit for this activity through their institutions. Each Journal Club features interactive discussion between an author of the featured article and other renowned experts in the field, as well as the opportunity for questions and comments from ATS members participating in the Journal Club session. Each session features: • A summary of the journal article, typically by one of the article’s authors. • An interactive web-based platform, which allows real-time discussion both online and on the phone. • An Interactive platform which allows for dynamic discussion between an author of the featured article and other renowned experts in the field, as well as the opportunity for simultaneous questions and comments from ATS members participating in the Journal Club session. Some assemblies offer live Twitter discussions starting at the time of the journal club and continuing for 48 hours after the live session is complete. This allows busy clinicians and researchers an opportunity to participate, even if they cannot join during the live session. Journal Club sessions are also archived and can be accessed on the ATS website at any time. Look for the Journal Club Icon on the ATS homepage to see upcoming Journal Clubs and to view Journal Club archives. We invite you to participate in our journal clubs. If you are interested in leading a journal club contact your Assembly’s Web Director. A list of current Web Directors can be found on the ATS website under Assemblies.
