Tejaswini Kulkarni, MD, MPH

This month we are pleased to highlight Dr. Tejaswini Kulkarni as our Women in Clinical Problems faculty spotlight for her important contributions to the Clinical Problems Journal Club!

Dr. Kulkarni is an Assistant Professor in the Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care division at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After receiving her medical degree from the Bangalore Medical College and her Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Kulkarni completed her residency at Wayne State University and her fellowship at the University of Alabama. Dr. Kulkarni is the Co-Director of our Clinical Problems Journal Club and is actively involved in ATS yearly meetings.

Dr. Kulkarni has a clinical and research interest in interstitial lung diseases. Her research is specifically focused on the development of imaging predictors and molecular biomarkers to prognosticate and assess response to therapy in patients with pulmonary fibrosis. As a physician scientist, Dr. Kulkarni highly values working in a pulmonary fibrosis foundation care center network site as it enables her to advance her clinical and research interests.

Dr. Kulkarni’s passion grew for ILD because of her patients and the diagnostic and management challenges they bring to clinic.  In her free time, Dr. Kulkarni enjoys hiking, painting and running after her adorable triplets! When asked about what she has learned managing young children and work, Dr. Kulkarni notes that “It is challenging when people assume that I would not be able to do certain tasks at work because I have triplets without letting me decide on what my capabilities are. I have learned to be more assertive about my skills and place clear timelines when accepting responsibilities”. Thanks Dr. Kulkarni for the great advice for our CP assembly women and for being a leader in our Assembly!
