Stephanie Maximous
Stephanie Maximous, MD

This month we are pleased to highlight Dr. Stephanie Maximous for our Women in Clinical Problem’s faculty spotlight!

Dr. Maximous is an Assistant Professor in the Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Division at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Maximous completed her residency at Boston University Medical Center and completed her pulmonary and critical care fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Maximous is a member of the Clinical Problems Assembly Web Committee and will be transitioning to Chair of this committee in the upcoming months. Dr. Maximous is heavily involved in the medical education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Maximous’ love of teaching culminated in the carving of her own pathway at the University of Pittsburgh as the inaugural medical education track fellow. She was then selected by the internal medicine residency program director to coordinate the residents’ subspecialty pulmonary educational experience. In this role, she teaches core pulmonary topics on inpatient and outpatient rotations and arranges additional pulmonary noon conferences for residents. Dr. Maximous notes that one of her most rewarding aspects of teaching is “simplifying challenging concepts to interested learners”. As an expert clinician-educator, Dr. Maximous has spent time figuring out what draws young trainees to learning, often incorporating a highly interactive didactic experience to engage learners.  Outside of work, Dr. Maximous enjoys cooking, hosting dinner parties, and traveling.  She is recently staying busy caring after her newborn, Milo. Congratulations to Dr. Maximous on the new addition to her family!  As a junior faculty member and mother of young children, Dr. Maximous offers advice to new faculty members – “find your allies, don’t be afraid to call for help, and understand that you are always growing.”  Thanks, Dr. Maximous for your hard work in training the next generation of future pulmonologists!
