Welcome to the

American Thoracic Society

The AmericanThoracic Society (ATS) is one of the oldest, largest, and most

prestigious medical societies in the world that serves professionals in pulmonary,

critical care, and sleep medicine.

Founded in 1905 to combat TB, the ATS has grown to address asthma, COPD,

lung cancer, sepsis, acute respiratory distress, and sleep apnea, among other

diseases. ATS improves global health by advancing research, patient care, and public

health in pulmonary disease, critical illness, and sleep disorders.

The Society has members in more than 120 countries, one third of whom live

and work outside the US. In its membership and mission, ATS is truly an international

society.

public health in respiratory disease, critical illness, and sleep disorders.
