On World TB Day, March 24, 2024, the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS), of which the American Thoracic Society is a founding member, calls on all stakeholders, including multilateral agencies, governments, national and local programs, non-governmental organizations, academics, activists and donors to focus on activities that will break the chain of transmission in high-burden settings in order to end tuberculosis.
The American Thoracic Society improves global health by advancing research, patient care, and public health in pulmonary disease, critical illness, and sleep disorders. Founded in 1905 to combat TB, the ATS has grown to tackle asthma, COPD, lung cancer, sepsis, acute respiratory distress, and sleep apnea, among other diseases.
