About ATS Education

The ATS is a non-profit international professional society for pulmonary, critical care and sleep professionals.  The Society is registered with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a 501c-3 non-profit organization.

The ATS Education Unit provides career development resources, professional education opportunities, educational products and programs and statements, guidelines and reports to the pulmonary, critical care and sleep community.

The American Thoracic Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. As of May 2012, the ATS cultivated partnerships with the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) to develop MOC Part Two Self Assessment modules.

Collaboration with ATS Committees

The ATS Education Unit is comprised of 5 full-time staff members who are responsible for staffing the following ATS committees:

Educational Tools and Resources:

  • Online Resources Web sites
    The ATS offers many targeted online resources for medical students, residents, fellows, training program directors, clinicians and interprofessional team members (i.e., nurses, physical therapists, hospitalists).

  • Conflict of Interest Information and Forms:
    The COI management section of the ATS website provides and/or links to ATS policies, procedures, and resources for use in the management of conflicts of interest (COI) affecting ATS members, staff, and others who participate in ATS activities.

  • Accessing the US and Canadian Training Program Directors Database:
    This directory is provided as a service to physicians seeking advanced training in the subspecialties of pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.
