PEDS Mentoring Progam

"The ability to learn about the aspirations, interests and goals of graduating fellows and the opportunity to support them is very rewarding to me as a mentor. " - Ameet Daftary, MD

The PEDS Mentoring Program is now hybrid, participants can connect virtually or in person at the ATS International Conference.

The PEDS Mentoring Program is an opportunity to welcome members to the PEDS Assembly, provide a 1x meaningful mentoring experience, and to create a supportive community for the career development of our next generation of students, physicians and investigators.

If you are a junior member (mentee) or senior member (mentor), please complete the survey at the bottom of this page to be included in this program. Once you have been paired, you will be notified by e-mail of your assigned mentor/mentee.

PEDS Mentoring Program Goals

  1. Support junior PEDS Assembly faculty and trainees through individualized mentorship
  2. Increase participation by junior faculty and trainees in the PEDS Assembly

Expectations for Mentors

  1. The key role of the mentor is to offer guidance on the mentee’s professional development.  In addition, the mentor may aid in exploring available research and career opportunities.
  2. Introduce yourself and begin communication with your assigned mentee
  3. Help identify goals for the mentor/mentee relationship
  4. Arrange to meet with your assigned mentee virtually or at the ATS International Conference, if both mentor and mentee are attending
  5. Be specific about communication frequency and time commitment availability

Expectations for Mentees

  1. Reach out to your assigned mentor to start the mentorship
  2. Prepare a short bio and CV to share with your mentor prior to your first meeting
  3. Arrange to meet with your assigned mentor virtually or at the ATS International Conference, if both mentor and mentee are attending
  4. Identify specific career or research needs and goals to discuss at your first meeting
  5. Be specific about communication frequency and time commitment expectations especially whether you will attend ATS and/or would like additional interactions after the meeting
  6. Individual mentor-mentee partnerships should decide if it will be beneficial to maintain this relationship beyond the ATS International Conference.
