Telomere Length and Immunosuppression in IPF

In this podcast, Rachel Knipe, MD (Mass General Hospital in Boston) interviews Chad Newton, MD (UT Southwestern), David Zhang, MD (UT Southwestern), Justin Oldham, MD, MS (UC Davis) and Ganesh Raghu, MD (U Washington Seattle) about their recent article entitled “Telomere Length and Use of Immunosuppressive Medications in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis” published in the December 2018 edition of AJRCCM. The discussion centers around the discovery by these authors that many of the patients with the worst outcomes in the PANTHER study had leukocyte telomere lengths < 10th percentile. The group discusses the implications of this data in IPF, non-IPF ILD and lung transplant populations and the role of telomere length measurements in current practice and future studies.
