2021 Winner - Mark Metersky, MD, FCCP

Mark L. Metersky, MD is Professor Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he serves as the Associate Chief of Service for the Department of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and Director of UCONN Center for Bronchiectasis Care.  He graduated from the New York University School of Medicine, then went on to train in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital and Pulmonary and Critical Medicine at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center.  He has been a member of ATS since 1992.Dr. Metersky has a long-standing interest in pulmonary infections, including HIV-related lung disease, pneumonia and bronchiectasis and has published over 100 papers and presented extensively these subjects.  His current research includes quality of care and outcomes in pneumonia and treatment of bronchiectasis. Dr. Metersky has served in numerous leadership positions for the ATS Pulmonary Infections and Tuberculosis Assembly, including Assembly Program Chair, Nominating Committee Chair, member of the Planning Committee and of the Acute Pneumonia Working Group.  He is the current Vice-Chair of the ATS Quality Improvement and Implementation Committee. He was the ATS Co-Chair of the Guideline panel for the “Management of Adults with Hospital-acquired and Ventilator-associated Pneumonia: 2016 Clinical Practice Guidelines by the IDSA and ATS”, was an author of the 2019 ATS/IDSA Community-Acquired Pneumonia Guidelines and is a member of the panel of an ATS guideline currently in peer-review related to nucleic acid-based testing in community-acquired pneumonia.

This award is given to a PI-TB member with clear commitment to PI-TB and the ATS, advancing their missions, and with significant contribution(s) to the PI-TB Assembly in the area(s) of research, clinical care, teaching, mentoring or service (may include leadership).

Criteria

  • Associate Professor, Professor, or equivalent
  • At least 20 years from having completed postdoctoral or clinical training, excluding time off for personal circumstances
  • PI-TB Assembly Member (primary or secondary)
  • Significant contribution(s) to the PI-TB Assembly in the area(s) of research, clinical care, teaching, mentoring or service (may include leadership).

Submit:

  • Nomination letter from sponsor(s) (2-page limit, using a template)
  • Updated candidate CV
