What is COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a term used to describe chronic lung diseases including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It is characterized by breathlessness. Emphysema is caused by damage to the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. Damage to the bronchial tubes in the lungs results in chronic bronchitis. Although there is no cure yet, there are many things you can do to breathe better and enjoy life.

What causes COPD

COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is not just a smoker’s disease. Genetics, second-hand smoke and environmental factors are all contributing factors for many individuals who develop COPD.

How is COPD diagnosed

Spirometry is considered to be the gold standard for diagnosing COPD. This simple non-invasive test can help show your doctor how severe your COPD is and helps determine what the best treatment protocol is for you.
